In an effort to expand the global footprint of theaters that offer Dolby Cinema and the combination of Dolby Vision and Atmos, Christie and Dolby have co-developed a new version of Dolby Vision laser projection systems, which will debut next week at CinemaCon and begin rolling out into theaters next month.Dolby Vision is a premium image format that supports a wide color gamut and 4K resolution. Atmos is the company’s immersive sound format, and Dolby Cinema is the brand for a specific auditorium configuration that offers a combination of Dolby Vision picture and Atmos sound.According to Dolby, the new projectors will be available to “all Dolby Cinema and all Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos partners,” globally, while “some” who are already partners to Dolby intend to adopt the new system. The company declined to discuss specific partnerships, but in the Los Angeles area, Dolby Cinema is currently available at various AMC locations including those in Santa Monica, Century City, Glendale and at The Grove...

Japan‘s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has extended its production incentive program through 2025, maintaining its eye-catching 50% cash rebate on qualifying expenditures. The incentive applies to half of all qualified spending on production and post-production costs incurred in Japan after a project’s official selection. The program caps rebates at JPY1 billion (approximately $6.6 million) per production. To qualify, international projects must meet one of three financial thresholds: direct production costs in Japan exceeding JPY500 million ($3.3 million); total production budget over JPY1 billion ($6.6 million) with at least JPY200 million ($1.3 million) spent directly in Japan; or projects set for distribution in more than 10 countries with minimum direct Japan expenditures of JPY200 million...

Sutter said there is "so much good science in the black hole image,” The expert also explains how Newton's third law impacts how Cooper is acting in the key black hole scene. Ultimately, he gave Interstellar's black hole accuracy a 9 out of 10. So much good science in the black hole image. Light follows the curves, the hills and valleys of spacetime. And these curves are set by massive objects. This is one of the earliest tests of Einstein's theory of relativity. And black holes bend space a lot, and so what we are seeing is there's a thing disk called an an accretion disk surrounding the black hole. But if you're standing on one side of the black hole, light from the back end — which normally you wouldn't see because you know, black hole in the way — there's light that's going up this way but then gets bent and curves right to you...

Netflix announced that Greg Berlanti‘s Berlanti Productions (via the company’s Warner Bros. Television deal) is bringing Scooby to life…literally. This will be the first live-action TV adaptation of the beloved Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters. The “Scooby-Doo” eight-episode series will tell the origin story for the mystery-solving gang and a “modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog.” The official synopsis reads: “During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.
